Burnout occupational stress awareness

Sixty seconds to see
the stress your teams carry.

A face scan in the mobile browser turns physiological signals into an early awareness prompt on sustained stress load — for each person, and as an instant, anonymised picture for the company.

Burnout Prevention Awareness

Elevated

Sustained stress load is moderately elevated. A short recovery break is worth planning this week.

The human problem

People rarely say “I’m burning out.”
Their body says it first.

It is created at work

The WHO (ICD-11) describes burn-out as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed — not a disease.

Today’s indicator stops short

Companies read wellbeing through Great Place to Work. It has no burnout dimension — and it photographs a climate already manifested, when there is nothing left to prevent.

Self-report arrives late

Questionnaires depend on recall, willingness to disclose and self-awareness. In a workplace, they are also answered strategically.

Physiology is unvarnished

Heart rate and heart rate variability reflect autonomic activation and recovery capacity — complementary signals that do not need anyone to find the words.

Why now

Work-related stress is becoming a compliance question, worldwide.

Italy

Work-related stress assessment is already a legal duty.

Assessment is mandatory

Art. 28 of Legislative Decree 81/2008 requires every employer to assess work-related stress inside the risk assessment document, and to update it at least every two years.

The method just changed

INAIL’s 2025 revision of the national methodology adds a dedicated module for remote and hybrid work — the first substantial update since 2017.

One employee in three

31.8% of Italian employees report exhaustion, detachment or negative feelings toward their work. Among the under-35s it is 47.7%, and 24% have considered leaving.

Where we sit

comestai.Burnout does not perform the statutory assessment and does not replace the INAIL instrument. It adds a voluntary awareness layer between one cycle and the next.

Japan

Stress checks are becoming universal — and the window is now.

The law changed in 2025

The revised Industrial Safety and Health Act, promulgated 14 May 2025, extends the mandatory Stress Check from workplaces of 50+ to workplaces of every size.

80% newly in scope

Around four in five Japanese workplaces have fewer than 50 employees. For them the Stress Check has been a best-efforts duty with low uptake. That ends.

The cost is documented

Claims for karoshi and work-related mental disorders reached a record 6,212 in FY2025. Recognised mental-disorder cases hit 1,055 in FY2024 — a sixth straight record.

Why a face scan fits

The statutory check is a questionnaire, and we do not replace it. Sixty silent seconds on a personal phone asks nobody to put distress into words on a form.

Our solution

Prevention, built as infrastructure.

comestai.Burnout is the workplace-stress module of the comestai.Health ecosystem — a white-label web app delivered under your brand, embedded where your people already are.

  1. 1

A 60-second video selfie in the mobile browser

No download, no wearable, no extra hardware — just the camera your people already carry.

  2. 2

The rPPG algorithm extracts the pulse wave from the pixels

A standard smartphone camera captures the tiny colour variations that blood flow produces in the skin with every heartbeat.

  3. 3

Heart rate and heart rate variability features are computed

Stress, recovery and reactivity readings are combined against age-adjusted ranges.

  4. 4

    Fully white-label

Logo, colours, imagery, language, indicators and flow, configured per deployment.

  5. 5

    Integrates with what you have

Burnout Prevention Awareness appears immediately, with a downloadable report. Sits alongside your existing wellbeing and HR systems, in six languages.

The science behind it

Peer-reviewed, and honest about its limits.

A preliminary validation of the rPPG-based stress indices was published in Healthcare (MDPI), 2026. The study ran on Comestai Check — a separate CE-marked product sharing the same face-scan engine; that certification does not extend to this one. The app-derived Stress Level index was associated with anxiety, depressive symptoms and general emotional distress — weak associations, shown exactly as published. The authors call the evidence preliminary and exploratory: no burnout instrument was administered, and neither the indices nor our composite score are validated for diagnosis, prediction or clinical use.

252 participants scanned — general population and university students
3 indices studied — only Stress Level reached statistical significance
60s a single contactless facial video, no wearable, no sensor
0 diagnoses made — awareness and prevention only, by design

How it works

A prompt to act on, not a verdict.

Three short moments in the browser — consent, a 60-second scan, a plain-language result.

1 · Before the scan

Consent

Explicit opt-in, revocable at any time. The non-diagnostic nature of the service is stated up front.

Profile

Gender, age, weight, height, smoker — kg/lb and cm/ft. Used only to age-adjust the reference ranges.

Guidance

Light, distance, stillness, no accessories. Good conditions are what make the reading usable.

2 · The scan — one minute, no contact

Frame the face

Face inside the oval, on a personal phone — nothing worn, nothing touched.

Stay still, 60 seconds

The facial video is processed and deleted immediately after signal extraction. It is never stored.

No biometric identification, no individual result to the employer

Extracted parameters are encrypted and stored in the EU. Built for GDPR and EU AI Act compliance, with a DPIA per deployment.

3 · The result

Snapshot

High load, Elevated, or Relaxed — a plain-language read of sustained stress load.

Indicator detail

Every band carries a plain-language explanation and personalised advice, reviewed and approved by the Scientific Advisory Board.

PDF report

A report the person owns and can download. Repeat scans make the trend visible over time.

How we help companies

The person keeps the result. You get the picture.

Today that picture depends on questionnaires a large part of the workforce never opens. Here it is sixty seconds on their own smartphone.

Aggregate dashboard

An anonymised, aggregated picture of the stress load carried across the population. Never an individual name, never an individual score.

Spend where it matters

See which sites and periods carry the highest sustained load, and direct wellbeing budget there instead of everywhere.

Measure what you do

Re-scan after a programme, a reorganisation or a peak season and see whether the aggregate load actually moved.

Participation you actually get

Wellbeing questionnaires are long, and most people skip them. This is sixty seconds on their own phone, under your brand — no app to install, no form to fill in, no reason to say no.

Individual results are visible only to the individual. Minimum group sizes and aggregation thresholds are agreed before launch, with worker-representative consultation where required.

Deployment

Yours in weeks, under your brand.

Make it feel easy to say yes to: white-label configuration, integration with what you already run, and a pilot live in weeks rather than quarters.

Configure

Logo, primary button colour, background, carousel imagery, indicator selection and the order of the journey — all per deployment.

Integrate

Embed in your intranet, benefits portal or HR platform, alongside the wellbeing and HR tooling you already run. Nothing to install on personal devices.

Launch

Start with a pilot: one population, one period, one clear question. We agree the aggregation thresholds and the communication to employees before the first scan.

Next steps

Let’s run together.

In 2023, Gruppo De Pasquale, Vittoria Assicurazioni and Mapfre founded Come Stai S.p.A. Our mission: to contribute to the development of health prevention activities by responding to citizens’ needs, building an accessible digital ecosystem around a prevention app.

comestai.Burnout is the workplace-stress module of the comestai.Health ecosystem — built on the same rPPG technology and scientific framework, with no download required and full customisation of branding, language, indicators and content for each deployment.
